India Lesotho Business and Cultural Council
About Lesotho
The Kingdom of Lesotho, often referred to as the "Mountain Kingdom," is a landlocked country located
in Southern Africa. It is entirely surrounded by South Africa, making it an enclave within its
larger neighbor. With a population of around 2 million people, Lesotho is one of the few countries
in the world with an entirely mountainous terrain, which is part of the Drakensberg Mountains.
The country's capital and largest city is Maseru. Lesotho is known for its stunning natural beauty,
with rugged landscapes, high-altitude plateaus, and numerous rivers and waterfalls.
The economy of Lesotho relies heavily on agriculture, textiles, and remittances from Basotho working
abroad, especially in South Africa.
Lesotho's picturesque landscapes, rich cultural traditions, and warm hospitality make it a
destination worth exploring for those seeking a unique African experience amidst the splendor of the
mountains.
